The Wisconsin Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (WPGA) hosts many PGA HOPE programs for veterans, however, Cedarburg PGA professional and newly certified PGA HOPE instructor Gunnar Stapp, hosted his first program recently.
This introductory free-for-veterans program is designed to welcome those of all ages, branches and eras of service, genders and abilities to share in camaraderie and fun together as a group. During these six sessions that were held on Saturday's from Nov. 11, 2023 to Dec. 16, 2023 at Pure Fitness (Mequon, WI) five local veteran participants covered all the game's fundamentals with programming led by Stapp.
"Now that I am a certified teacher with the PGA HOPE program, I am hosting an indoor clinic for six weeks during the holiday season. This time of year can be difficult for many people and hopefully I can use golf to help a few veterans relax and take their mind off any issues they may have," Gunnar Stapp said.
"And, hopefully we all have a little fun along the way!"
Stapp attended the PGA HOPE training seminar at Blackwolf Run (Kohler, WI) in spring and will now be able to push forward his mission to give back to those who have made sacrifices for our country. Stapp is not a veteran but has close friends and family who have served. He is looking to grow the program in the coming years.
