A Recollection of Past Memories in Ozaukee County WI

Who has been around long enough to remember the Elroy Benz and the Riverbend Playboys band? 🤔

This popular Slovenian-style Polka band performed from the 1950's to the 1980's at weddings and other private parties throughout Ozaukee County and surrounding communities. They were also well known for performing at Sunday dances.

The band was led by Elroy Benz, who was born in Mequon and died at the age of 79 in 2009. Elroy learned to play the accordion at an early age, and was instrumental in bringing the band together.

Recently, another one of the band member's Howard F. Fischer, died in Kewaskum, WI. He was 91 and was born in Mequon, WI. Howard played the accordion in the band, and also was an experienced piano and organ player. He was the assistant organist at First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg.
