Town of Cedarburg Issues a Noxious Weed Ordinance

The Town of Cedarburg recently issued a Noxious Weed ordinance affecting all town residences, businesses and entities who owns, occupies or controls land in the town.

The ordinance requires parties to destroy all noxious weeds on such property before the plants bloom.

Noxious weeds are:

  • Canada Thistle
  • Bull Thistle
  • Leafy Spurge
  • Field Bindweed (Creeping Jenny)
  • Purple Loosestrife
  • Garlic Mustard
  • Common Buckthorn
  • Glossy Buckthorn
  • Wild parsnip

According to the town government, the above-named weeds must be destroyed at such time and in such manner as shall effectually prevent them from bearing seed or spreading to adjoining property as required by Wisconsin Statue § 66.0407 and Cedarburg Town Code of Ordinances § 246-3.

Pictures or drawings of these plants and methods of removal can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website.
