Power Outages were Numerous in Southern Ozaukee Communities after Severe Thunderstorms on Aug. 10, 2021

The southern Ozaukee County communities of Cedarburg, Grafton, Mequon and Thiensville were embattled by strong thunderstorms on Aug. 10, 2021.

According to We Energies, lots of lightning strikes rhroughout area communities, plus strong shearing winds caused damage to power lines and trees throughout the southern Ozaukee County area.

The utility company had workers trying to establish service yet in parts of Grafton, Mequon and Thiensville as of Wednesday afternoon.

In Cedarburg, the Cedarburg Water & Light Utility were a bit faster in restoring power in the city overnight. Crews were out fixing infrastructure and connecting service throughout the city after power went out for residences around 7:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Power was restored between 9:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the southside, westside and northside of Cedarburg.

One resident posted on Facebook page CedarburgNow that she saw lightning strike a nearby transformer three times when the storm rolled in from the west/southwest. A resident on the north end next to Firemans Park lost his heavy tarp that was tied down snuggly to his vehicle overnight. The tarp was apparently shredded from heavy snarling winds.

Resident Norm Christenson on Harrison Avenue on the west end if Cedarburg said a couple neighbors had big trees go down in their yards, while there was no major damage in  his yard.

Another resident Keith Wilde, who lives near the Cedarburg Fire Department east of Cedar Creek, said their power never went out, and the same for parts of downtown Cedarburg. He spoke with a friend that lives in an apartment building next to the Cedarburg Post Office who told him after the storm passed through, there still was power on in a small part of the downtown Cedarburg area, while on the north end on Washington Avenue the power was out.
