Question

Are Gas Prices Getting to High for Your Budget?

A look around at gas-convenience stores around Cedarburg, Grafton, Thiensville and Mequon, it looks like fuel prices have been on the increase - not just in Ozaukee County, but in other area counties.

Does the current level of fuel prices bother you and your budget? Are you complaining about it yet? What do you think the reason(s) are for the steadily increasing prices?

A look at the app Gas Buddy shows that the lowest price for regular gas in the Cedarburg area on Oct. 14, 2021 is at $3.19 per gallon at Casey's on Wauwatosa & Western Road in Cedarburg, at Kwik Trip on Washington Ave. and State  Highway 60, Citgo in Cedarburg, Speedway in Cedarburg, and in Grafton - BP on Wisconsin Ave. & Broad St., Citgo near Wisconsin Ave. & 7th Ave., and Mobil at Washington St. & 12th Ave.

The price drops to $2.99 per gallon at BP located at Main St. & Eagle Dr. in Jackson, WI, which is 8-9 miles west of Cedarburg. Prices are generally lower when you head south into Milwaukee County.

Gas prices continue to rise across the nation as demand continues to increase the price of crude oil, according to data released recently by American Automobile Association (AAA).

The organization explains gas prices rose two cents to $3.20, “a level not seen since October 2014.” The cost for crude oil remains above $73 bbl.

"Global economic uncertainty and supply chain concerns caused by the lingering COVID-19 pandemic could be playing a role in keeping crude oil prices elevated,” said Nick Jarmusz, director of public affairs for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “But, there may be some relief on the horizon due to the news that OPEC and its allies might ramp up production increases faster than previously agreed.”

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, total domestic gasoline stocks increased slightly by 200,000 bbl to 221.8 million bbl last week. Gasoline demand also rose from 8.90 million b/d to 9.4 million b/d, more than a 5 percent increase.

It’s a nice article, but misses the main reason for price increases. Immediately upon taking office, Biden prohibited pumping of gas or oil on federal lands. That dramatically reduced our supplies and eliminated our energy independence, making us (and the rest of the world) once again dependent on OPEC. Reduced supply, higher prices.
